Charlene begins to question her need
 for material possessions.
Maxim:
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  4. Although I've never hitchhiked, I can attest to the advantages of traveling light. Material possessions can sometimes be a heavy burden... I like Charlene's colorful orange poncho!

  8. Margaret,
Yes, indeed, to paraphrase the Band they took the load off Carmen and put the weight on Charlene.

  9. Stickup,
I hitch-hiked across Canada from east to west and back again with my boyfriend in 1970-something. At this point in my life I have to ask myself, "What was I thinking?!" These days I always try to travel light. I suspect Charlene's mother knit her bright orange poncho, again speaking from personal experience, more or less.

  10. Roxana,
I question it daily but have not yet come up with the suitable answer of chucking it all.
