Maxim of the Week #256

Smoking a cigarette while waiting for the bus to take her to Friday night Bingo was part of Elsie's "lucky ritual" and she wasn't about to give it up because of some silly new by-law.
Maxim:
Don't change the rules in the middle of the game.

Oh we all love those 'rituals' don't we...like the baseball player who always wore his 'gold thong' for good luck...I will never forget that one!! Once again your Maxims make me smile!

    1. I can't help but wonder if that was a solid gold thong.

  3. two hundred and fifty-six!!! wow. that's a lot of maxims. She's a trip for sure. most of us are so relieved about the no smoking rules in various places. i have had many friends plus my dad and brother and sister in law who were heavy smokers. they are dedicated to their ciggies.

    1. My original goal, a few years ago now, was to a maxim a DAY for a year. Best laid plans and all that...
I know a few "die hard" smokers myself. It's a bit sad that people who have been addicted for decades are now treated as lepers, but I must admit that I'm very intolerant of being around smokers, now that I've quit for many years myself.

  8. You must know my neighbor...she walks up the hill in the evening to play Bingo and yes, smoking her cigarette! This is a charming drawing and it is amazing to see the ones holding out to the 'old ways'! Smiling!

    1. I think that's so funny that you have your very own Bingo-playing, ciggie- smoking Elsie for your neighbour. But does she have the same fashion sense as the "original"?

    2. No, her hair is in a low bun and her clothes are grey or beige...but her puffing is constant and she also balances a potluck dish...how she gets up the road on Wednesday evenings is short of a miracle...determined lady!

    3. I must tuck this information away for further reference...a casserole-totin' lady. Love it!
