Cornered

Although I haven't been particularly creative this week, I have been looking after the business side of making art.  A local gallery has requested cards and magnets made from my Maritimes Series.  The catch is, the paintings' frames were made from lobster traps, which are curved.  I will spare you the details, but I have to make this, for example,

into this

which means filling in the missing areas with pixels.
Yes, it's a slightly tedious, rather painstaking job--right up my alley!

Apart from that, I got distracted for a few hours fiddling (pardon the pun) with a photo I'd taken in Montreal recently.  It's always the poorly lit, out of focus pictures that I'm drawn to tinkering with.

What do you think of this very soft focus effect?

Anyway, back to pushing pixels into corners.
See you Sunday for the maxim!

  1. Nice to have a showing opportunity in a local gallery...the piece is charming!
I like the soft focus of your photograph. You seem busy to me!

  5. Blue Sky,
Yes, busy! And, truth to tell, I'm enjoying it--being focused and "getting the job done." Dealing with things put off for far too long. Good to hear a positve vote for the soft focus picture ; hard to tell what works when one is so close to a piece of work (hence the blurry eyes?)

  6. DCW,
I may be biased but I think c always looks good.
    :-)

In true Maritimes fashion, my art work is only "going down the road."

  8. sukipoet,
It is good to be wanted! Or at least to have one's art work wanted.
Thanks for the support for the soft focus approach. I hesitated to post the photo so I'm pleased to have positive feedback.

I hope you're enjoying some summery feelings.

  9. That is so awesome! I can see why they would want to replicate them if this is an example. Great colors and so lively. This example has a wonderful sense of depth! I know it is a pain to have to square the image, but just think how much harder it would be without the computer!

  10. Stickup,
Exactly...imagine the alternative--repainting them all on rectangular canvases. Ugh! It's taken me about a decade to get skills adequate enough to push the pixels around.

  13. Forest Dream,
He's one of my personal favourites. You're right about saleability--the original painting got sold years ago and I don't know where it lives now.

  15. Beautiful painting with beautiful colors. The effect of the photo is beautiful, like a pastel drawing.

  16. Leovi,
Thanks so much. I like the idea that the photo looks like a pastel drawing!
