Pedal Pushers

I'm old enough to remember when capris were called pedal pushers.  Anyone else?  Let's see a show of hands.

A pedal pusher could also refer to someone riding a bike (or playing an organ).  Here we see a mannequin in a store window, pedalling along while trying to balance a teacup in one hand and steer her purse-laden bicycle in the other.
She's like a different version of the little painting, Bixi Babe I did last September, don't you think?  I'm hoping this altered photograph will suffice as my piece of creativity for this week as I haven't had the inclination to uncap my glue stick and make a collage.  I'm on holiday, after all.  But I did want to leave a little offering as I'll be heading off to Vancouver Island for a few days, so I had some fun with this photo I took the other day in downtown Vancouver.  You can see the original over at Décolleté if you feel so inclined.

I'll preprogram Sunday's maxim to magically appear here on schedule.
Have an inspired week!

  2. Didn't William Carlos Williams say, "It is at the edge of a pedal that love waits.” ?

No, maybe I don't have that quite right.

  4. Susan,
Thanks for warm send off! Unfortunately, neither pedal pusher nor capri weather here as yet. And did you used to call flip flops "thongs" when you were a kid? You'll get some weird looks these days if you slip up and refer to your footwear as thongs!

  5. DCW,
Don't try to back pedal on your quote.

  6. sukipoet,
Would pedal pushers by any other name be as cool? I think the attitude is, "Let's tart it up and trot it out and see if anyone wears it." I've heard that if you wore any style the first time it came out, you shouldn't be wearing it when it comes back in fashion...so maybe it's a good thing they change the names!

  7. I never heard of pedal pushers or capris until a year or so ago when my sister-in-law was talking about her new capris. But I'm a fashion dud with the same old jeans, shorts, and t-shirts one year to the next. I do remember Bixi Babe though. How could I forget?

  8. Bixi Babe has my vote! She's a determined woman with a strong sense of herself; no dawdling with tea for her!
I guess I have to admit I'm from a pedal pusher childhood. Now capris just mean to me I have to have a pedicure!
    Bon week-end, ma chere!

  9. Stickup Artist,
I'm sure you, like our friend Bixi Babe, have a style and flair all your own! Your bandana alone speaks volumes.

  10. Margaret,
Oh my, I've been wearing pedal pushers and capris without ever having had a pedicure! I wonder if Bixi Babe would indulge in such...
