Head to Toe

As much fun as it is to play with my tablet, it's good to get back to working on its big brother, my laptop.  (Somehow, I've given up on my desktop computer as it's gotten lugubrious and slow, not to mention how it gets a sadistic kick out of turning itself on and off at random!).

This image was made from a photo I took in late winter of a statue in Vancouver, zooming in for a close-up of her face.  The photo itself is quite washed out, giving me lots of opportunity to apply various textures and blending modes in Photoshop to create something original...not painting, not photography, but digital art.

At the bottom of the same statue, we see one foot of the angel and one boot of the soldier she is carrying off. Windows of a neighbouring building witness their ascension.

Here are the two original photos.

And this gives you an idea of the full statue,
Winged Victory by Coeur de Lion MacCarthy.

Yet another version of this intriguing and emotionally moving statue,
an artwork I made a few years ago.
I suspect I will make a few more digital art pieces
based on this sculpture.

Can you blame me?

  2. it is incredible what you made with these rather pale originals! i totally can relate to your passion... i´m photographing stones (cemetary mostly) over and over in munich these months, it has become somewhat my addiction of the year;)

having neither tablet not laptop, i´m bound to my pc, which kicks the internet on and off (mostly off) as it wants to...

    1. I'm really intrigued by your photographing of stones. Are you sharing the images anywhere? Sounds like your computer has the same hiccups as my desktop--frustrating! I got the laptop and then the tablet originally for travel use but now I use them all the time.Great tools (and toys!)

  3. I admire your adventure and continuing to explore your relationship with your angel. Many who had produced an image as stunningly beautiful as your original, shown last, might say, "That's it! Perfect!", and go no further. That's how good relationships start to wane and disappear. Your love for this will undoubtedly return and I shall await to glance over and listen as the dialogue continues.

    1. Wonderful, wise words, DCW, and very complimentary towards my digital art expressions, for which I thank you whole-heartedly. Learning to look at the familiar with a new perspective teaches us to fall in love all over again.
At least if we are lucky. Sometimes it has the opposite effect!

    1. Yes, I love that statue, too. It's called Winged Victory and was created by Coeur de Lion MacCarthy (how's that for a moniker?!) I am blushing with delight and gratitude--absolutely tickled pink--for your compliments on my photo-processing skills. Sometimes I feel I do get it right, and it's so gratifying to have someone validate that feeling. Thank you so much, Deann. xo
