Chinagate

Gateway to Canada's oldest Chinatown, Victoria BC

I revelled in a most mild winter out in Vancouver these past four months.  Somehow, just enjoying the everyday simplicity of being with family and friends, getting groceries, making dinners, going for walks, visiting the library, knitting, watching a little television in the evening, and sometimes venturing out into the big city filled all my days and left me no time or space for sharing on my blogs.

Creatively, it's a fallow time for me.  This has happened to me before.  It used to worry me when it occurred ("Will I ever make art again? Am I done?") but I have come to recognize it as a natural part of my artistic process.

Now that I'm back in my house on the east coast,
there are changes brewing in my life.
I'm not certain how often I will visit here in the next little while but I am not abandonning the blog or the dear friends who have come by to lend me encouragement and share their own creativity.

"We are always in transition.
If you can just relax with that
you will have no problem.|"

    1. Hi Mary Ann, thanks for noticing me (as Eeyore would say). I'm hoping to get back into sharing pictures and being in touch with the lovely folks of Blogland, such as yourself. But promises are like pottery--easily made and easily broken!

  2. Creativity is weird. Sometimes it comes in bursts. Often leaving no time or no way to find a relationship to daily life "out there." It's hard to strike a balance. Getting so caught up and losing track of space and time. It's awesome to come down to earth and find your loved ones waiting patiently to enjoy your return. Glad to hear you are well and enjoying good times.

    1. Oh I love how you describe the losing track of space and time and then coming back down to earth to find loved ones waiting! And it's such fun to have stuff to show them from one's voyage into that other dimension. It takes a lot of energy, though, that flight. Some artists hold that one has to practice one's craft daily...but I believe a time to dismantle, to clear space and sit empty and open...is necessary and inevitable. At least for myself. I'm not sure that "balance" can be achieved when it comes to the creative life. Aren't most artists somewhat "unbalanced"? :-)

  4. Lynne I'm so glad to hear you are alive and kicking, and to see that your art hasn't suffered in the least from your neglect.
I wish you well in your new challenges please send up a flare once in awhile so we know you are doing okay and life hasn't torn you asunder. Best wishes in all you do. Hugs, Deann with no E.

    1. Yes, I'm alive and doing my best to kick up my heels in the unbelievable pile of snow that I've come back to! Now that I'm back in my studio I'm feeling at least slightly optimistic that I'll have the urge, time and space to send up a few flares cooked up in Photoshop. Making art's like riding a bike...might be a bit rusty and slow at first but the basic instinct never really goes away. Thanks for your kind concern, Deann with no E!

    1. Well, we're putting the house up for sale this spring/summer. That should stir things up quite a bit! Or not. Depends how the market is, I guess. You know how that goes...

    2. That will be a change for sure. Exciting to look ahead of all the possibilities. Come on Adventure.
We will soon be making progress on the little place we picked up last year. Really looking forward to that!

    3. "Come on adventure"--love that attitude! Have been living here in this same spot (in so many ways) for 21 years now. Definitely time for a little (or a big) adventure. Exciting that you will soon be creating a new nest, yourselves.

  7. Lynne, so glad you're back! It sounds like you had a very nice "fallow period". I hope your changes go well for you, and the art-making as well. I really like your altered Chinatown pic!

    1. Glad you like the Chinagate mash-up! It's great to be welcomed back. Somehow just being in my studio seems to have got the juices flowing again...Or maybe it has something to do with being free from big city distractions/attractions that I was subject to while out in Vancouver the past four months.

  8. wonderful Rinpoche quote! i think this has been a long hard winter for many of us, at least for me and many of my friends, so me too i find myself in a phase where i simply want to move slowly through the simple things of life, quietly, resting and healing...

i am so glad to see you here again! :-)

    1. And I am happy to be back, and to find you visiting here, Roxana. The energies of spring are beginning to quicken my creative pulse...at least a little. :-) It does do one good to dip back into the daily small pleasures of a simple life...healing, ruminating, centering one's Self.
