Simple Shapes

Sometimes less is more...

This simple image resulted when I rediscovered a handy little tool in Photoshop called "Shapes."  All I had to do was select a few and layer them.  As I was just playing around, I didn't have any sort of plan or intention, otherwise I might have used some colour in the composition.  As it is, though, I think it's reminiscent of a woodblock print.

What do you think? Would you consider this as a card to send out for the holiday season?  Of course, one would have to be a cat lover to do so...but I think there are more than a few out there...

    1. Glad you like it! Excellent idea, and a very encouraging thought, to have something all ready for next year. Now the trick will be to remember that I do when Christmas 2014 rolls around. But I'm not forgetting to wish you a very merry Christmas right now!

    1. Thanks for your Christmas visit, Julie! I waver between liking simple or over-the-top for Christmas related themes. Maybe I'll just add a bit of sparkle to this one...(kidding!)

    1. Why, thank you, Lady Fi! What a pleasant surprise to find you visiting here. Perhaps, however, you would have preferred a canine to a feline looking out the window.

  8. my first thought was: this is an eraser carving. and i don´t think it looks simple, as it is well balanced in it´s black-and-whites.
so in my eyes a wonderful card!!
wishing you some restful days along the turning of the year and all the best for the next one!

    1. Oh, I'm glad you find this image has the look of a print from a carving. I've never been very good at carving anything to make prints, be it eraser, potato or lino, so to succeed digitally is most gratifying. Johanna, I wish you an inspiring New Year, full of fresh creative spark!

  10. as with many here, i really thought this to be a woodblock print :-)

it is wonderful, and oh would i only find such lovely cards to buy here!!!

though, Lynne: let it snow??? i must read it somehow as a tong-in-cheek card, coming from you :-)

  11. Well then, all the more reason for me to make my work available as cards! And yes, Roxana, you have caught me with my tongue quite firmly implanted in my cheek when crying "Let it snow!" What I didn't say out loud, though, were the added words of "anywhere else but here!"

i have just stumbled upon this artist and thought you might find her works interesting, with their collage-feeling and humour and expressive portraiture

    1. Hi Deann,
I have been in Vancouver since before Christmas. Am enjoying a "fallow period" in regard to making art. Have just returned to the east coast (and winter weather) now. Things brewing in my life--changes coming. Conserving energy, perhaps, to deal with it all. Thanks so much for your kind words.

    1. Thanks, Stickup! I had a great deal of satisfying ordinary times, plus a few amazing ones as well, while with family and friends out in Vancouver the past four months. Guess the movement is more of an internal nature these days, which doesn't translate all that well into blogging. So nice of you to think of me!
