Your Maxim of the Week
Marissa's favourite moment of the day was kissing her baby's sweet little toes after bundling him up after his bath. Her second favourite was when he went for his nap.
Maxim:
The best things in life are free.

Mon Seul Desir...my only desire...
not sure what the lady has in mind...
The only desire that I find
ReplyDeleteLooking deeply in my mind
Is keeping my integrity
And sentiment of unity
Which often comes in fits and starts
Since I'm composed of many parts
Ha ha! Very witty and apropos, comme toujours. Your comments always leave me smiling.
Delete:-) (see?!)
I adore your cartoon characters Lynne they are so free form...and where on earth do you get all your Medieval pictures are you ripping up old encyclopedias??? They are very cool!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Deann, the cartoons are totally free form as they begin with a quick scribble done with my eyes closed! From there, I have to turn them into a person with the addition of a few more lines and squiggles (eyes open this time). Once the character is established, the story presents itself. Then begins the hard slog to find a maxim to roughly fit with the scenario.
DeleteThe collages are made from some wall calendars I had, Medieval Women, which I bought several years in a row and stashed away at year's end. I couldn't just throw them away (years later) so decided to rip them up and make something new from them. Hence, the Medieval Collage Series. I'm happy you like the results!
Good Lord I think we must have been separated at birth...I knew it was squiggle art because my brother and I used to have squiggle art cartoon challenges all the time before he moved to France.
DeleteI have a box of all my old calendars mostly James Christensen art (which is essentially modern medieval art)I make giant collages out of them and hang them on the wall. (waste not want not)
Sistah! You are the only other person I've ever "met" who does squiggle art cartoons. I think I started doing it as a teenager, but then forgot about it for years (decades). Most people don't really believe me when I tell them how I make the maxim characters.
DeleteI haven't heard of James Christensen so will look forward to doing some research.
I'd love to see your giant collages. Collage is ever more interesting to me as a medium, be it with paper or pixels.
So cool to meet a kindred kook!
I keep the quote, because It's true ;) and love your mysterious lady.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good maxim to remind ourselves of, 'tis true; especially when lusting after that pair of shoes or dream vacation or anything else we can't quite afford. The "lady of mystery" here may be lusting after a face cream or new make-up to hide her
Deletescars so she is very happy to have your love and appreciation.
;-)
I imagine in Medieval times the best things in life were not always free. The lady may have in mind a kind, rich and generous husband......and a mansion......but perhaps she already has these!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week Lynne,
Ruby
Your comment, Ruby, brings to mind all those historical accounts of court intrigues that make such gripping novels and movies, etc. This lady, for example, might well stop along the route of her exile to a nunnery and admire the sunrise.
DeleteWishing you a lovely week as well!
complete agreement with the maxim!! especially the nap part!
ReplyDeleteand your collage is superb as always- love the puzzle like face.
And the best part of the baby's nap is that mamma can do so as well (if she's wise). Glad you like how the pieces fit together in the collage.
Deletei remember both pleasures.
ReplyDeleteesp like the white line beneath her lip. hope you are having a good summer.
Each memory as delicious as the other? The little pleasures of motherhood become written indelibly upon our souls, I think.
DeleteAh, the white line beneath the lady's lip. Perhaps she's been licking cream left over from a bowl of strawberries. Hopefully not a sign of rabies.
;-)
Oh yes, toe kissing...babies fresh from the bath are delightful!!
ReplyDeleteYet another beauty...I like the detail, the butterflies, the wonderful curl and shapes on her left side..#.13 you say?! How do they look all together...like a royal gallery!!
Those yummy little feet stay tasty for a fair number of years, as I remember. Such a long time ago!
DeleteThe "royal flush" is tucked away in a see-through folder so they look rather a jumble. I'm sure they'd look lovely matted and framed but that would require wall space and my house already looks like an over-stocked art gallery.
Posting once a week is pretty darn good in my book. Anyway, the maxim is so, so sweet. And the Medieval playing cards are calling, begging, to be brought into being...
ReplyDeleteHa, yes...I've noticed the slow down in your own postings. Quality over quantity they say, but your images are always top quality anyway. I'll probably have to take a summer break soon as I'm going to be hanging with my sister and then heading west for at least a month. Just want to get the Medvl.Series all posted before I take my (temporary) leave. Two more to go. With the idea of making more to add to the series (hello Tarot deck)I looked online for any old Medieval Women calendars and they are rarer than hen's teeth! Absolutely unavailable. I'm thinking that having cut them up wasn't such a hot idea after all... Why is it that whatever we finally get rid of turns out to be exactly the thing we need a short time later?!
Deleteone of the best maxims... always worth to remember!!!
ReplyDeletelove your medieval lady collage, too.
Yes, I agree--really one of the most easily understood and appreciated maxims out there and a good one to keep handy in many of life's situations. Glad you appreciate the lady, too. Thanks!
Deletei was just reading an article about some fresh mom who used to shut herself in the bathroom to drink her coffee on the toilet seat to be able to have 5 minutes of peace, just by herself (though the kid's screams and noise were still to be heard through the door :-)))
ReplyDelete(the medieval princess is so lovely, despite her stern look!)
hahaha! Yes, there's that side of motherhood, too. But that's a different maxim for another day.
DeleteIt seems that even with my collages, when I am cutting and pasting facial features, I never make "happy" faces. Stern, serious, curious, perhaps even loving...but generally not smiley. A reflection of my own personality? Hmmm... It is said that all one's art is a self-portrait, after all.
