Medieval Series--le Magicien

There are only a couple of male figures featured in my Medieval Series, largely because the calendars I used as fodder had "Medieval Women" as their theme.

In addition to the ripped-up calendars, I used scraps of lace and fabric, painted paper towel, a textured art paper, torn piece of wallpaper sample, with a vintage book page as the support.

The man seems to be wearing a crown, as indicated by the lace,
so perhaps not a magician but a prince?
However, the hand is holding something mysterious,
which seemed to have magical properties to me.
Also the fabric with the stars seems to imply the mystical.
Thoughts?
Another title?

  1. He does seem rather magical and mystical peeping out from behind like that. Nice combination of materials.

    1. Ah yes, hints of Merlin lurking in the shadows; observing without quite being seen. Very perceptive observation, Suki.

  2. Wonderful... I have an idea for a title ! Up there... In Frenc the letters A and O make me think to "là-haut"...

    1. Oh yes...we could go "up there" on the magic potions and mysteries that this mystical prince may dream up for us. Oh-la! Ö-là! Now it`s starting to sound Spanish.

    1. Ah--yes! A conjurer. The frog turned himself into a prince. And then invited some unsuspecting princess out on a date...

  4. This princeling hails not from the house of Windsor.

    1. Could be, though...in some dark recess of their convoluted history...

    1. Yes!!! I thought so,too. But I ran out of material from the calendars so couldn't make enough for a deck, or even the major arcana, or just the "faces" of the suits (King, Queen, etc). Wah! Which reminds me...I must get back to finishing my original paintings for my Tarot deck. Remember those?

And thanks for exploring my new blog. I don't know if I'll keep it up...it's an experiment...for my digital photo experiments.

  6. I would stick with mystical magician...the stars and the hand hold the magic! Wonderful combinations put together as a 'whole' view!

    1. Your words inspire this thought: "We hold the traces of stars and the mystery of the world in the palms of our hands." (good tag line for a fortune teller in the palm reading business!) I'm happy you find that the combination of elements works to create a satisfying whole. Thanks!

  7. Perhaps I'm just being frivolous here, but what the prince is holding reminds me of a cigar - might be that 'O', like a smoke ring!

    1. Oh, frivolity is permitted here, if not downright encouraged! That would be one heck of a hunk of Havana cigar he's holding! But nothing can ever be too outrageous for a royal. Kings blowing smoke rings; wouldn't be the first time. Now I think of my collage as cover art on one of those charming, flat, vintage wooden cigar boxes.

    1. Thank you! Very happy that this one spoke to you. Collaging is a little like piecing leather together into a beautiful bag.
