Vintage
This perhaps goes beyond vintage and on into downright spooky and decayed, but I'm putting it up in Bonnie's virtual gallery at Pixel Dust Photo Art this weekend to fit in with the "Vintage" theme.
To see other examples of photo art vintagery, do drop by her blog.
The original photo is of an abandoned house that borders our property. The apparition of the lady in the window frame is from a photo I took in a cemetery in Tropea, a beautiful city in southern Italy, of a memorial picture on a grave stone.
There were many edits, but the final additions included a texture from Kim Klassen and the birds flew by as Photoshop brushes from Shadowhouse Creations.

This piece reminds me a bit of the mother in the main house in the old movie, Psycho, Lynne. I even hear the jarring music.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's a great edit, when you don't see the details but are overcome by the feelings the piece elicits.
Ha ha, now I can't look at it without hearing that grating, frightening music! I am tickled that it evokes such a strong reaction in you. My work here is done.

Yep it's a bit eerie and like Bonnie it did remind me of Psycho. Your edits were spot on for the feel you were going for.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you associated the image with Psycho like Bonnie did. I hadn't thought of it myself but I totally see the connection now it's been suggested. Am pleased you find the edits spot on (I love that expression).
DeleteVery cool editing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and thank you for stopping by.
Delete(Do you mean "cool" as in "bone-chilling"?)
Great idea with the woman in the window and the birds. Scary and very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe birds were an afterthought as I felt I needed a bit of movement in the picture suggesting life. "Scary and interesting" are fine compliments for this piece, thank you!
Deletei love it (this feels like home to me) nice how the overall piece is white/ light colored with the darker theme. the pic from the graveyard is so haunting and adds the perfect eerie touch.
ReplyDeletemy new favorite.
I don't usually go "light" in my editing but recently I've found it's worked with the subject matter so have posted those versions. I'm glad you find it succeeded in communicating a feeling of eeriness. The subject matter is dark enough that the light atmosphere only enhances the spookiness, I think. I am flattered that you like it, Queen of Dark Matters!
DeleteHow wonderful......the lady has been transported to your neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the whole feeling of this piece. Old abandoned houses are THE BEST to capture and use in our art. And using the woman from Italy was perfect!
Yes, the lady has been imported from Italy to the Canadian maritmes and she doesn't look too pleased about it! I, too, love to get photos of abandoned houses but am a bit reticent to actually venture in...largely through fear of falling through a floor. Thanks for the encouragement--I'll have to dig out some other shots of these beautiful old derelicts to work on and share.
Deletehaunting and wonderful. love the colors. and the birds.
ReplyDeleteI know that there are a couple of haunted houses in the village, so it wasn't too much of a stretch to suggest a little paranormal activity in this one. The birds flew in at the last minute and brought it to life; I'm glad you like them.
Deletewonderful composition - all fits together so perfectly!
ReplyDeletehave a great sunday!
(and thanks so much for turning off the word verification. it is a pain...)
After toying with several versions of this photo, I did finally feel that all the right pieces were in place. I'm pleased that you think so, too.
DeleteAs for word verification, when the spam gets overwhelming on a particular post, I do have to turn it on for awhile, but I prefer not to. I know how hard it is to decipher those "codes."
wondrously creepy and uniquely "vintage" this one, Lynne. really splendid thinking. for me, stuff seems to "happen" and I just go along for the ride. for you, on the other hand, it seems you ride that wild horse with total confidence!! this is just a stellar contribution to PAF Vintage!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It is a wonderful ride--I love that you describe it that way. I must admit, the Photoshop horse does take me down some unexpected trails, but that's where one can find exciting surprises. You "going along for the ride" and letting stuff "happen" is the best way to gradually learn what works best for you...or not!
DeleteEerily beautiful! I admire your attention to detail and composition.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic Sunday!
Hugs,
Gaby
I'm glad you find beauty in this composition. It is a little reminiscent of your beautiful pendants of ancestral portraits...only creepy where your work is more celebratory.
DeleteWith such praise coming my way in blog comments, my Sunday is well on its way to being fantastic! I hope yours is (or was), too.
xo
I love the finished results - very creative processing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherri. I love experimenting and being surprised with what I can come up with in Photoshop. Glad you appreciate the results.
Deleteoh, I love it! Not too spooky at all (at least there are no decayed doll babies in it- those really creep me out!)
ReplyDeleteDecayed doll babies??...hmmmm...you've given me an idea...(insert maniacal laughter soundtrack here).
