Roots and Wings

At this time of year, often stuck inside due to frigid temperatures, cabin fever sets in and I wish I was roaming far hills or distant shores...

"We are all wanderers on this earth.
Our hearts are full of wonder,
and our souls are deep with dreams."

--Gypsy Saying

  • My photograph of abandonned house
  • Gypsy girl from Graphic Fairy
  • Birds, Shadowhouse Creations brush set

PS.  This picture makes an oblique reference to the Andrew Wyeth painting, Christina's World.

I had it vaguely in the back of my mind.

  1. Yes, if we are lucky. And I'm going to have to google that bird brush set! If being stuck indoors for a time gives rise to such creations, I'd have to say it's worth it!

    1. Stickup,
I did get out wandering today, along the village hills and streets; wondering at the subtle white-blues of the frozen ditches lined with the pale gold of dried reeds. It was the first good walk I've had in weeks! I'm glad you like my creations because I'm beginning to feel like I need an intervention (somebody save me from my Photoshop addiction!)

    1. Johanna,
Old houses do have a charm...like older women (I can only hope!).

Thanks for advice re:Photoshop; it's always good to get counselling from a fellow addict.

    1. Julie,
Well, seeing as I have no life, I guess there's no help for my PS jones! Will just have to happily take up the torch and soldier on for those, such as yourself, who actually have to go out into the "real" world.

I warn you, you are heading down a slippery slope from which there is no return! Have fun with the adventure.

  5. This is so beautiful. I envy your patience with using such devices. You make such lovely images. If you count April as spring we just have two more months to get through.

    1. SukiPoet,
I'm afraid my patience get all used up when it comes to making art of any kind so that there's not much left over for the rest of my life! Around here, I usually figure we're pretty much out of the deep woods of winter by April 15; any nastiness the weather throws at us in the form of ice and snow can't last for long (hopefully these won't qualify as "famous last words").
      Thanks for the encouragement.

  6. SORRY ALL, but I'm going to have turn on the hated WORD VERIFICATION,at least for now, because I'm getting flooded by spam from (ironically)a water clean-up company in the states. Aargh!

    1. Gwen,
Well that's a great compliment! I was kind of going more for an Andrew Wyeth look, though (see: Christina's World, painting by A.Wyeth) Maybe I'll just insert it at the bottom of this post as an afterthought.

    1. Blue Sky,
The house on the hill was very inspiring and not a little spooky and sad. I have more photos of it that I will doubtlessly play with in the future. Just amazing to come across such derelict old beauties. Stops me in my tracks...or more like, stops my companion driving down the road with the words, "Go back--I have to take a picture!"

  10. "it's just the gypsy in my soul, makes me want to pack up my things and go, it may seems like i'm on a roll, but it's just the gypsy in my soul..." loving your darker gypsy side!

    1. Beth,
I can just hear her humming those words to herself as she heads off down the darkening road. I hadn't thought of this piece as coming from my darker side, but you're right. I should visit there more often, I think: let that gypsy in my soul speak out.
