copyright L.Ciacco, Pigeon English, digital art from an original photograph |
I was playing with a photo today in Photoshop, thinking I would post it on Décolleté, my "home and away" blog. But when a simple photo turns into something a bit more complex, thanks to brushes and textures and layers and modes, it crosses boundaries and transmogrifies from a photograph into a piece of digital art.
So I'm doing a cross-over posting here..."re-gifting"as it were, especially as it seems that visitors to this, my art blog, don't tend to peer down my Décolleté blog. Maybe some time I'll have to put all my eggs in one basket, or all my pigeons in one pie.
This little piece of digital art started out as a not-very-good photo of some pigeons sitting on a gate top in Montreal's Chinatown. I used several brushes and textures graciously offered for free by Shadowhouse Creations to help in the transmogrification of the original picture.

Well, some of us peer down all décolletés offered up for public consumption, shamelessly... why pass by life's small, or not so small pleasures ?
ReplyDeleteGuess I better stop there, lest I run afowl of the pigeon police...
Peering down décolletés with toady eyes; yes, even down your sister's. Must make a mental note of that and try not to egg you on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind visit and your lovely Christmas wishes! I want to have a *no-pressure* season and spend time with my family!
ReplyDeleteSending warm wishes to you and your loved ones for a wonderful Christmas and much health and happiness for 2013.
Hugs to you,

Gaby,

Your work with pigeons is nice "here". Now I'm curious about the use of the French word Décolleté for your site ;))

DeleteWell, it's all about places close to my heart...
i was immediately thinking of the photo "workers on the crysler building"... you have made a great picture out of that, love that textures!
ReplyDeleteJohanna,
DeleteI had to Google "workers on the Chrysler Bldg." and I'm so glad you made that comparison. What an amazing and scary photo that is! My little pidgies pale in comparison. Although, they could be part of the reason the workers had to get up there to clean the Chrysler Bldg.
I like the way it looks like a line drawing with water colour. Interesting perspective and colours......really gives the feeling of an enclosed space!

Ruby,
DeleteOh, I do like that comparison to a line drawing with water colour. And yet it is something that I would never attempt to do with those traditional art-making means (esp. as my perspective is always askew). That's part of the fun of working with photos in Photoshop, transforming them into a new form of art.
Looking at your photoshop creations I often think I'd like to try it but I feel it would take up a lot of time ....... we'll see what surfaces next year!

You and Driftwood may be birds of a feather. http://cosmicfart.blogspot.ca/2007/11/moral-tale-in-pigeon-english.html
ReplyDeleteTwins by different mothers!
DeleteLove the photo and edit - like the title too!
ReplyDeleteDiva,
DeleteThank coo!
The Birds are waiting to bomb anyone who enters. and another relay in waiting not far off. They have deadly aim too. we know... Take your chances and wear a raincoat.
ReplyDeletelike this image ... an ancient feel
Gwen
DeleteHa ha! You are so prosaic: a real straight-shooter with your point of view, much like the pidge. Your aim is true, like Elvis Costello's. And the pidge. A rain coat, you suggest...wouldn't that make a fine design--a rain coat with pigeon poop paintings all over it! Quick, we've got to patent the idea and find an agent in NYC.
And what a delicious pigeon pie it is, too! Whatever it was before, it has indeed turned into digital art; love it!
ReplyDeleteSharmon,
DeleteIt was a hodgepodge of dark matter! Glad you found the result to your taste.
You took the photo and then added the magic. This piece has so many lovely shadows, faded colors and yes, mystery! Wonderful piece!
ReplyDeleteBlue Sky,
DeleteThere's nothing quite like the magic wand of Photoshop for transforming the mundane into other-worldly! I have to admit, it's a bit of a mystery how I arrived at the end result, but it was a fun trip with a satisfying destination in the end. Lovely description you've applied to the piece. Thank you.
