Barn Burning

I sporadically jot things into a wee notebook I bought in Vancouver's Chinatown.
Many messages to myself seem to be about letting go, in one way or another.

My barn having burned
to the ground,
I can now
see the moon.

-Japanese proverb

As we inch closer to the winter solstice, we cocoon a little deeper into our heart of darkness.
Darkness is the theme this week on Collage Obsession.
Although my contribution is not a collage per se, it does try to attach some light to the inky night of the soul.

    1. Sukipoet,
But look on the bright side, soon soon, the days will be growing longer and we will be moving towards the light again!

  2. That is a great proverb. we sometimes do not know our burdens till they are gone. There is much beauty in the world.

    1. Gwen,
I think this is the flip side of Joni Mitchell's "you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Maybe, you don't know what you can have till you let it all go?

  3. Yes, it always depends on how you look at things! Louciao, I love your sketchy style in illustrating the proverb.

    1. Eila,
Changing one's point of view can often change one's life.
It's fun to just spontaneously do little scribbly sketches to underline a quote or something jotted down. No worries about making "art".

  5. When the night is dark can you see the light when you close your eyes?

    1. DCW,
Is this a koan you are positing?

Actually, sometimes I can see amazing light shows when it is dark and my eyes are closed and I'm "focused" on my third eye.

    1. Ruby,
Isn't it an inspiring proverb?! It really made me "see" differently. I love it, too, and I'm so pleased that it resonates with you.
