I'm really fascinated by this hybrid breed of art-making.
Digital composition combining 3 photos plus overlay of diagram.
(the filter "Difference Clouds" gave the overall other-worldly, aquatic feel to the background image).

It took me awhile to begin to process photos like this because I felt I was doing an injustice to the beauty of the original photos...however, now I just love it because the process produces a whole new piece of art....I love what you did here!!
ReplyDeleteDanielle,
DeleteYes, a whole new piece of art that isn't a photo--it's something else. How cool is that! And yet, we can still have the beauty of the original photo (unless we forget ourselves in our enthusiasm and go at the original hammer and tong in Photoshop instead of working on a copy. Guilty!) Kind of like having your cake and eating it too. Oh, wait a minute--it isn't time for Maxim of the Week.
I know what you mean. The possibilities are endless. Maybe that's why the process is so much fun. I love the surprises and happy accidents along the way. It's a natural for a multimedia/collage artist like yourself, no?
ReplyDeleteI love the surreal quality of this image. The people seem to be hovering, unconcerned, in a shared dream, like it's the most natural thing in the world...
Stickup,
DeleteYes, yes--surprises and happy accidents! Wonderful stuff. Endless possibilities, limited only by blurring eyes and an aching wrist from wielding the mouse or stylus. I don't know how "natural" it is for me; it's still challenging and I feel like a beginner, but I guess that's part of the fun. I do find that I bring my sensibilities of being a painter/mixed media/collagist to the digital field because I have a sense of how I would like the piece to look in terms of textures, tones, and depth and am not afraid to pile things on and "wipe" them off. Endless possibilities, endless possiblilities...this way to madness or blindness--whichever comes first!
Forgot to say how much I like your idea of the two people hovering in a shared dream! Isn't that what we all do as blog friends, at least a little?
DeleteLove the colours........to me it feels like after a storm.
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot!
Ruby
Ruby,
DeleteThe colours are a result of one of the "endless possibilities" that Stickup Artist mentioned above. Playing with the Saturation/Hue slider in Photoshop there were so many intriguing colour combinations that cropped up, but this one just felt right to me. I like your take on it being "after a storm." I hadn't thought of that, but I see it now.
Done, captured and secured...other worldly place! This is one beautiful piece...congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteBlue Sky,
DeleteI am surprised and delighted by your response! And also tickled (pink). Thank you so much.
such a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteMomPhotog,
DeleteI am so pleased that you respond to it like that. Thank you!
Take care of those blurring eyes, eh, so that you can continue for a long time to come blurring the boundaries between the close to reality of photographs and the infinity of your dreamscapes...
ReplyDelete(I like it, your shore bird)
Owen,
DeleteIs that you? I hear some croaking and I think I can make out an amphibiously bilious sort of green tone moving in a hopping flopping sort of manner, splishing through the wet sand beneath the shorebirds.
(We is happy you like.)
PS. Owen-- Look, here we all are, just like Stickup says, hovering unconcerned in a shared dream like it's the most natural thing in the world!
DeleteI was attracted to the thumbnail immediately and the piece held its promise. I love the tones and the gradations and especially the neat markings. It's quite compelling.
ReplyDeleteSherry,
DeleteSo glad the thumbnail didn't prove to be false advertising! I'm so pleased the composition moves you in some way.
Great idea!
ReplyDeleteAngelika,
DeleteSome of the best ideas occur quite accidentally!
I'm fascinated as well by this painting... it makes me think to a journey in SF, with a special space boat.
ReplyDeleteÖtli,
DeleteAnd would öne be wearing flöwers in öne's hair ön that space böat jöurney to SF? Not sure now, if you mean San Francisco, or Science Fiction...but it's always good to wear flowers in one's hair in any event!
Otherworldly, lovely.
ReplyDeletePat,
DeleteYes, a most apt word to describe the landscape that appeared before my eyes here.
Such a fascinating edit on this. Isn't it amazing to see what you can come up with on your photos!
ReplyDeleteJeanne,
DeleteIt is truly amazing and a real joy to see what can turn up, quite unexpectedly, from one's photos, I agree.
Very creative. Valerie
ReplyDeleteValerie,
DeleteAh, being creative is what I like doing best, to the best of my ability.
I love your thoughty thought process and the result of your experimentation is quite stunning. I am still new to this too and I see it all as a grand adventure!!
ReplyDeleteCurrie
DeleteI think I will always feel new to this as there is just so much territory to explore. A grand adventure is a great way to describe it.
Your work always inspires, Lynne. Love the intrigue and mystery you have created with the dreamy atmosphere and then the script.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
DeleteOh, that's very cool if my efforts provide inspiration. I don't know how to teach, other than by doing. One of these days I really must pay more attention to the process so that I could share the step-by-steps...but then, every picture is a whole new field of experimentation, so every time it's a bit like starting all over again. "Intrigue...mystery...dreamy atmosphere"--thanks for applying such wonderfully evocative words to my picture.
I wish that I could do such digital things. This is brilliant!!! Love all the details on this!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Gaby,
DeleteI'm really gratified that my digital experiments bring pleasure and inspiration to you, and to others, and make you dream a little.
Lynne xo
Cool! I'm not exactly sure how you arrived at your end result but it's really nice. The colors are so calming and it just has a peaceful feel to it that is very appealing.
ReplyDeleteIda,
DeleteTo be honest, I'm not sure how I arrived at my end result either! Lots of experimenting. I'm glad it has a peaceful appeal for you.
