Maxim--more or less-of the week

UPDATE:  Our poor dear Selma finally got some colour into her world...

Original Post:
I thought I had a stash of maxims at the ready, but on madly hunting through my studio, I found that I've only got a few line drawings awaiting their paint.  I will wing one up here for those early-risers among you, then stealthily sneak back in to substitute the colourized version anon (where is Ted Turner when we need him?!)

Up until that fateful day of the church picnic, Selma had not realized that she was allergic to bee stings.
Maxim:
If a bee stings you once, it's the bee's fault; if a bee stings you twice, it's your own fault.

(so carry an epi-pen with you, or a big bottle of Benadryl!)

  1. This is biologically accurate art. The vivid colours usually come an hour or two after the puncture. There must be a prayer that goes with such occurrences, given the sponsor of the picnic.

    1. DCW,
Thank you for pointing that out. In Selma's case, the onset of technicolour after- effects occurs more like a a day or two after the insult...if not longer. Sainte Beatrice is, I believe, the patron saint of those stung.

  2. Glad to see you back!!! I am still enjoying your wonderful art from the post card you sent. I always worry about those dang bees...even though I know they are good for the environment.

    1. Danielle,
Thanks for the welcoming words! My neighbour keeps bees...in an old trailer of sorts. He reports that the honey production was very poor this year. Did you know that if a bee is flying around bothering you, you only have to give it a brief report of how your various family members are doing and it will buzz off.

  3. Of course we are smiling now that you are back ! Hadn't smiled once since you left...

But I think I'd rather carry a big bottle of something other than Benadryl, if a big bottle I must carry. What was that about I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy ? Ah, the fun of word games.

Speaking of word games, do people in Canada play around as they do here in French with what are know as "contrepèteries"? Word games where exchanging two sounds within a sentence produces a new sentence with a totally different, and often surprising meaning. Par exemple: Il y a certaines dames qui, avec l'age, deviennent folle de la messe...

Hoping all is well in the land of monks...

    1. Owen,
Je ne comprends pas. I would say that we do not play such word games here in Canada. In fact, I heard someone in the village grocery store using the word "aint" in his sentence tonight and he was not indulging in word play. For me, the usage of "aint" does not rhyme with "quaint."

A big bottle of something, yes, choose your poison. Presently, I am going with a Chilean red that is described as "textured and fruity."

    1. Johanna,
DCW is very astute...and humorous. As for our poor Selma, I'm afraid she may take longer to recover than first anticipated.

    1. Blue Sky,
Oh I do like your attitude! An excellent idea to leave all as is for now. You're so right, too, about just settling back in. It was quite a trip.

  6. Bees are one thing I don't have to worry about out here! Looks like Selma there took one on the nose! Funny, but I'm filling in the lines; imagining/seeing this in color...

Feel free to colour outside the lines!

  7. This certainly hides the colour of her blemish!

    1. Ruby,
She's now pondering how to bottle the effect and sell it at cosmetics counters world wide.
