Tarot Series: XIII Death

Here's the latest installation in my ongoing series

© L.Ciacco XIII Death, Tarot Series, acrylic on paper, 7 x 5 in.

Not altogether fearsome.  Rather friendly and stylish-- for Death, that is.  And proferring a lovely bunch of roses, signalling life in the blood red of the petals, and hope/love in the green leaves.  So, yes, a death of  situations and/or relationships that were once, and perhaps still are, held dear.
The time has come to let certain things go...whether we really want to or not.  And out of this death of sorts, new beginnings and opportunities for growth and change will arise.

  1. OMG.. I haven't seen this series of yours.. I'm a sucker for Tarot cards.. maybe more for the symbology... but then again.. that's exactly their purpose... I tend to like the unusual and bizarre sets rather than the traditional as they bring something extra to the interpretation.. and yours are fabulous!!!

Just had a quick look back and love them all... especially those that always seem to be applicable to me... You make Death look inviting.. haha.. if you know what I mean..

Have a great day.. look forward to the next 'reading'... ciao xxx Julie

  3. Nicely done. Interesting that Death looks friendlier than Justice. Have you been reading Harper's omnibus crime bill?

  4. Julie,
I have a modest collection (accumulation, more like) of Tarot decks, largely for the artwork on them. I agree with you, it's fascinating to see the different artistic interpretations of the cards' meanings.
Glad you like my renderings. Coming soon: Temperance.

  5. Stickup,
A friendly fiend, ha ha. Good way to describe it. I didn't want it to be a card that a person would go all squeamish and pale and frightened at drawing in a reading. I think we all need to make friends with the inevitability of death. Well, maybe not bosom buddies, but friendly acqaintances.

  6. DCW,
LOL! Indeed, justice can be a stern mistress while death forgives all.

No, I haven't read Harper's omnibus. I try to avoid horror stories.

  7. Really great, death with a bouquet of roses, and I want that when the time comes for me, tender and delicately.

  8. I like this Death card...yes, a bouquet of roses is perfect as well as the beautiful background...yet still strong in reality of endings/beginnings.

  10. a wonderful version of death and such an apt card for me to read right now esp the words about letting go even when we dont want to.

  11. Leovi,
May your death wish come true...when the time comes!

    Blue Sky,
A different take on "wake up and smell the roses" perhaps. I'm so pleased you like the background; they tend to take quite a bit of flying by the seat of my pants, trying to get the right atmosphere without overdoing the effects.

    Ötli,
Beau et terrifiant à la fois, bien sur, juste comme La Mort! Au moins, j'espère que ça va être beau quand il m'arrive.

    sukipoet,
Yes, it follows hard on the heels of your death journal, doesn't it, and keeps apace, grinning, with your letting go of papers and old writings...making space for new energy to come in?

  12. It's clear that your understanding of the Tarot goes deep. You communicate the nuances of each card with both your art and your descriptions. Fascinating, intriguing and always artful, Lynne.

  14. Julie,
You're right, over-indulgence tends to make things fall down.
    ;-)
I find the universal language of point and mime, with a big smile, works wonders. And if you put your hat on the ground while doing so, you can usually gather a few coins from passers-by.

  15. Bonnie,
I almost missed your lovely comment! I must keep it to quote as a blurb to advertise my Tarot deck when I publish it!
    ;-)
